Specimen Fish Competitions

There are four competitions run by the club for its members.
1. The specimen fish competition.
2. The specimen fish points competition.
3. The Pike trophy.
4. The best fly-caught Brown Trout
The following rules apply to entries in any one of the competitions.
1. The competitions are only open to full members of West Riding Anglers (the club).
2. The competitions will run from 1st January to the 31st December each year.
3. Only fish caught from WRA club waters are eligible for entry into any of the competitions.
4. Any fish entered by a club member, into any of the competitions, must have been caught during the current year’s legal open season for the species in question.
5. The club record, standing on 1st January of each year will be used for the calculation of the points awarded for an entry.
6. All entries into the Specimen Fish Competition and/or the Specimen Fish Points Competition must meet the qualifying weight for the species in question. Please refer to the “WRA Record Fish List” for qualifying weights.
7. Entries to any of the competitions must be reported to the competition organiser, stating.
i. Captor’s name ii. Date of capture iii. Species of fish caught. iv. Weight in pounds and ounces. v. The WRA water from which the fish was caught.
8. All entries are taken on trust; no witness is required.
9. Only fish with a current club record listing can be entered. See club record list.
Competition Entry CriteriaSpecimen Fish Competition
Points are awarded for each fish entered by a member. There is no limit to the number of fish members may enter. The points awarded for each entry are calculated as a percentage of the of the entered weight w.r.t the club record standing at the time. The winner is the entrant with the highest percentage points for an individual fish, regardless of species. Any trout species counts in this or the points competition.
Specimen Fish Competition Points Competition
Points for all entries are awarded as described above. The points for the largest of each species entered by a member totalled. The winner will be the member with the highest points tally.
The Pike Trophy
The winner will be the member who enters the heaviest pike caught during the current competition year. There is no minimum weight for an entry into this competition.
Best Fly-Caught Brown Trout
The winner will be the member who enters the heaviest fly caught Brown Trout caught during the current competition year. There is no minimum weight for an entry into this competition.
Claiming a New Club Record Any member, full or provisional, may put forward a fish to be considered by the WRA Committee as a new club record. All claims must be witnessed by at least one other person. The witness must have seen the fish being landed and its subsequent weighing. The witness need not be a club member but must be willing to be contacted by a representative of the club to verify the claim. Only fish caught from WRA club waters are eligible for consideration. All claims for a record must be reported in writing, stating.
i. Captor’s full name, and if full or provisional member. ii. Date of capture iii. Fish species iv. Weight in pounds and ounces (and drams if appropriate). v. The water from which the fish was caught. vi. The name, address, and contact details of the witness.
Arrangements for making an entry to a competition

2. Alternatively, I will take entries at a club meeting. Please do not submit entries through the member’s WhatsApp forum.
